California Farmer
United States
Приєднався 8 жов 2013
My name is Ryan Valk and I am a California farmer. Most important to me though, I am a husband, and a father. Many people that I have met in my life have told me that when they thought of California, they thought of a crowded city or a beach covered in surfers. What you may not know is that California is the leading state in agricultural production! We have an extremely rich history of farming here in the "Golden State". My goals with this channel are to share my family's story of our farm/ranch here in the Central Valley of California, to share cool videos of the day to day operations and grind of a California farmer, and to explore other farms and ranches throughout my area. If you enjoy tractors, trucks, farming, learning, exploring, life lessons and experiences, and a good laugh, this is the place for you.

While we didn't get footage of the actual barn going up, we did get some of putting in the gravel floor.

Interesting to see how they are planted and also the different irrigation method used. I work at an almond orchard in Australia (NSW) and we just use the drip lines full of holes. But do like the idea of the sprinklers.
Great video bro thanks! Also had a bit of a chuckle of how you kept changing the way you said almond lol, it’s a strange word and have now realised so many different ways to pronounce it hehe 😂
Overall it looks like a good job getting done

If I would have been driving for you instead of making piles in more work I probably would have just left over the leftover debris towards the edge of the road of the new base of gravel gravel
It makes me super happy of you representing who you are what our great Central Valley really means makes me inspired🙏🏻😊
Very Cool Videos starting watching your videos and let me tell you they are great .Keep it going Great California Farmer💯🤝
Great video!!
Excellent job sir!! I always wanted one to fart around with. Good old trucks, plenty of parts, simple. Sky's the limit for mods like this, and it's still useful.
Good for. You. Farmer also.
I think you do fine. I’m a farmer too in Watsonville cali.
Godness. This is the most beautiful truck I've ever seen. In Mexico we still got some of these running but always beaten to death. You planning on making more videos about this particular example? kudos to you, sir.
Kindly do a video on nutrition for almond trees
I thought it was i joke when CAT told us that they ripp farm soil in Alabama ) and everything is ok with shanks) Ours were ripped out in Russian far east.
I,have planted some almond in my house.in Pakistan.plz help me in this regard , recommend me some readings necessary for gardening
Your OP MISTER California farmer
Wait so your telling me growers just don’t sit around and lay in money and collect millions 😮 lol great video if you ever need some labor work done we are ready
Can’t believe people don’t eat almonds green. My fav fruit is green almond
U remind me of a guy named Alex.
Id like to get a peach/almond graft tree for my backyard. Where can I find one.
I do the same thing on orchards in Washington state but luckily the ground has more moisture, is softer so I use 2-3 shanks & only do 3’-4’ deep, this season im only doing 400 acres 2 passes
hey Ryan i reached out to you on Instagram recently via direct message and my message to you got cut off. anyway i am new to the modesto area (moved for new job) and i am wondering if you can point me in the direction of local resources like clubs or associations to help in my goal of purchasing a 10 to 20 acres of third or fourth leaf almond orchard in the turlock/modesto area. i believe this small size is considered a hobby farm which i the investment i can currently afford. thank you for your time and help. ps i have many years of prospecting the merced river and it's tributaries. the bucket dredge tailing piles can produce some nice gold with a metal detector. thank you for your time and help.
tailing piles in Snelling. sorry i forgot to specify.
Man, you should be looking at KNF or JADAM...Chris Trump, for almond trees will help you a lot
What a great video! Thanks for sharing this! Plz do another .. I live in Florida so this is too cool to see about places & things in other parts of country Great job Ryan 🤩
Thank you! I filmed this one a year ago and have had half of it edited but I finally just decided to finish it up. Hopefully I can get more going.
That’s some beautiful country this time of year. That part at the end reminded me of Dr. Cover’s soil class tour of hardpan. All that land was nothing but pasture at the time, it’s amazing what a little D11 action and some drip will do.
Good ole Dr. Cover!
love this guy funny
This is a video those no-till Zealots should be shown. Working land without tillage is a great way to make sure nothing will grow there anymore. It could be brought back to life, ofc, but they're not likely to even bother.
I discovered that I live extremely close to your farm! My family is on Church St. in Modesto. (Off of Milnes Road)
💯👍💪🤳🤝✍️👀☕️🚜📲✏️🗒🪝☎️📞
What part of Oakdale are you from? I am from Modesto.
Maquinon

Nice, I have a 64 Loadstar 1800 with the Perkins 6.354 turbo diesel. Full air brakes, hydraulic power steering, and 25,500 gvw. IH 5 speed with 2 speed 18.5k axle. Oddly optioned Loadstar. The door tag says 150.2 hp, and the governor limits rpm's when shifting. Runs and drives nicely; has plenty of power for my uses and is great on fuel. Been maintained and cared for; new tires and vintage S&W full gauge set, pyrometer / boost gauge. Has a pto / hydraulic dumping grain bed; it was stored in a barn and used for hauling harvested grain from the fields to storage in grain bins at the farm it lived at a few times a year. I want to add 4x4 and a twin boom Holmes 600 wrecker frame that I found. I had never seen a diesel Loadstar from that era before; it has no diesel badging. I had to open the hood, and it took me a minute to figure out that it was original. The truck showed up at a farm consignment auction unadvertised over a Thanksgiving weekend; I only had to outbid the scrap man. I don't think anyone realized it was diesel until I paid for it, started it up, and drove away while auction was still going on.
Hello from portugal . What are the distances between trees that you use ?
Ripping like that why do you need GPS ?
Do you have to water the cover crop? I just see drip on the trees. I’m in Lodi, and planting a small fruit orchard. We plan to use cover crops in the alley as well but I’m not sure if we need to plan to water the alleys as well as the trees. Thank you and great content!
I'd suggest adding in at least 1 plant species that's heavy on production of pollen so the bees can expand their numbers. Another thing many will not know is the specific species that you put into the cover crop, so you should mention each species you put in the seed mix.
Almond my favorite nut on such a large scale wow Keep it up Sir 💎❤️
California California California 😍 USA ❤️ The beautiful state with beautiful fruit on planet 💎 love from Pakistan ☺️
About how long do you have to let the almonds grow on the trees before you harvest them? In what months do you usually allow the bees to pollinate the almond trees? How close are you to Davis and Sacramento? I was up there last year, and drove past the Blue Diamond HQ. Also, took the train from Suisan City to Sacramento and passed some almond farms. As a regular almond eater, I'm curious to know about this.
Boys with their skirts, he will probably be going to a Avon party unbelievable .
I know you probably get asked a million questions on this build im working on a 1967 Loadstar need some info on swapping to budd style wheels from daytons any info you could give would be great thanks!!
Yes, any wheel swapping tips are appreciated; bolt patterns, etc. These medium duty trucks are a different breed. My bias ply tube tires are like new but shakes at high speeds. I thought about airing the front down some since the truck is usually empty and see if that helps. I will need faster tires after I regear. If I can't use my current axles, then I am considering swapping in Super Duty Dually 4x4 axles and all the springs except main leaf; the SD also has 3" wide springs. Leave IH main leaf and clamp the dually springs between the main and axle perch. Add shock mounts to the IH frame; should ride nice and still tow or haul a decent load.
Hello from Spain!. Hope you have had a good harvest, over here ee have been hit by drought.
Great job Sir. Hope you get the bang fot buck.
I like that 7.possum 😂😂
I know that's a pet but I've had that happen on customer cars. There was a $19.95 charge labeled 'Hanes' on their bill. Needed a fresh pair when it jumped at me.
Definitely not a pet 😂 I wish it was, that would be awesome! it had a nest in the upper corner by the pcm. Truck has been sitting in a barn for a month.
Looks like you got your best mechanic on it.
